Where Have I Been? My Journey Into Emergence Coaching and Breaking Free from Feeling Stuck

If you’ve visited Creating the Best Life recently, you may have noticed that things have been unusually quiet. I haven’t disappeared, and I certainly haven’t lost my passion for personal development. In fact, quite the opposite has happened. I’ve been deeply immersed in one of the most transformative seasons of my life. I have been spending countless hours learning, growing, and doing the inner work required to become an Emergence Coach, while working toward my doctorate in Transformational Leadership and Coaching.

This season has required me to step back from blogging and social media so I could fully invest in my own personal transformation. It felt important that before I could help others navigate change, I first needed to experience that transformation myself. I’ve studied human potential, neuroscience, consciousness, transformational leadership, coaching, and the incredible ways our minds and bodies influence how we experience the world. More importantly, I’ve spent time examining my own beliefs, fears, habits, and patterns. It has been one of the most rewarding—and sometimes uncomfortable and painful—journeys I’ve ever taken.

Personal Growth

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that personal growth isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about uncovering the person you’ve always been beneath the fear, self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and old survival patterns that have accumulated over time. So many of us spend years believing we need to fix ourselves before we’re worthy of pursuing our dreams. We wait until we feel more confident, more qualified, more successful, or somehow “ready.” The truth is that growth doesn’t begin when we’re perfect. It begins when we’re willing to become curious about what has been holding us back.

Emergence Coaching

That realization is what led me to Emergence Coaching, This coaching approach is profoundly different from many traditional coaching models. At its core, Emergence Coaching is based on the belief that every person already possesses wisdom, creativity, resilience, and potential. An Emergence Coach doesn’t give advice or telling someone what they should do. An Emergence Coach creates a space where new awareness, insight, and possibility can naturally emerge.

I often think of it like tending a garden. A gardener doesn’t force a flower to bloom. Instead, they prepare the soil, provide water and sunlight, and create conditions that allow growth to happen naturally. Emergence Coaching follows that same philosophy. My role isn’t to fix people because I don’t believe people are broken. My role is to help create conditions where people can reconnect with their OWN inner wisdom. They will then discover solutions that truly fit their lives.

How is Emergence Coaching Different?

Many people understandably wonder how Emergence Coaching differs from therapy, consulting, or mentoring. While each of those approaches serves an important purpose, Emergence Coaching isn’t about diagnosing problems, offering expert advice, or telling someone what decisions to make. It also isn’t about revisiting every painful experience from the past. Instead, it’s about increasing awareness, exploring patterns, asking thoughtful questions, and helping clients recognize the beliefs and assumptions shaping their current reality. When people develop greater awareness, they often discover that the answers they’ve been searching for were already within them—they simply needed a safe space to hear them.

The Role of Fear

One area that has especially captured my attention throughout my studies is the role fear plays in our lives. Looking back, I honestly believed my procrastination meant I wasn’t motivated enough or disciplined enough to accomplish my goals. That never made sense because I genuinely wanted to move forward. My shelves filled with planners, I devoured personal development books, created vision boards, and convinced myself that next Monday would be the day everything changed. Somehow, there was always one more reason to wait.

As I continued studying neuroscience and coaching, I realized something that completely changed my perspective. I wasn’t lazy, or incapable. I wasn’t lacking ambition, but I was responding to fear in ways I didn’t even recognize. Fear is incredibly clever because it rarely announces itself directly. Instead, it disguises itself as perfectionism, overthinking, procrastination, busyness, self-doubt, or the belief that we need just one more certification, one more course, or one more year of experience before we’re ready. It convinces us that waiting is logical when, in reality, waiting often becomes another form of self-protection.

Understanding the nervous system has helped me make sense of so many experiences, not only in my own life but also in the lives of people around me. Most of us are familiar with the idea of the Fight or Flight response. When we perceive danger, our nervous system automatically prepares us to either confront the threat or escape from it. However, there is a third response that receives far less attention but affects countless people every single day: the Freeze response.

The Freeze Response

The Freeze response occurs when the nervous system determines that fighting or escaping doesn’t feel possible. Instead of mobilizing us into action, it essentially puts the brakes on. This doesn’t necessarily mean someone literally stops moving. In everyday life, Freeze often appears much more subtle. It may look like endlessly researching without taking action, avoiding difficult conversations, constantly second-guessing yourself, scrolling social media for hours, feeling mentally exhausted, staying in an unfulfilling job, postponing important decisions, or feeling as though you’re trapped behind an invisible wall. You know what you want. You know the next step. Yet something inside you simply won’t let you move.

The more I learned about this response, the more compassion I developed for myself. Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” I began asking a much more helpful question: “What is my nervous system trying to protect me from?” That single shift changed the way I approached personal growth. Rather than criticizing myself for feeling stuck, I started recognizing that my mind and body were attempting to keep me safe from perceived risks like failure, rejection, uncertainty, embarrassment, or disappointment. Those protective responses may have served an important purpose at one point in life, but they were no longer helping me become the person I wanted to be.

The Freeze Cycle

I believe many people spend years trapped in this invisible Freeze cycle without realizing it. They assume they’re lazy, unmotivated, or simply not capable of achieving their dreams. In reality, their nervous system has learned that staying still feels safer than moving toward uncertainty. Unfortunately, while Freeze can protect us from discomfort, it can also quietly prevent us from pursuing opportunities, building meaningful relationships, starting businesses, changing careers, writing books, prioritizing our health, or living the lives we genuinely desire. Dreams remain dreams because fear convinces us that waiting is safer than trying.

Breaking Free

Breaking free from that cycle doesn’t happen through willpower alone. It begins with awareness. Once we understand why we react the way we do, we can begin working with ourselves instead of constantly fighting against ourselves. This is where Emergence Coaching becomes so powerful. During coaching conversations, we slow down enough to notice the thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and patterns that normally operate in the background. Together, we explore what may be keeping someone stuck, what possibilities they may not yet be seeing, and what small, meaningful actions feel aligned with who they truly are. The goal isn’t to force change. It’s to create the conditions where change can emerge naturally from a place of greater awareness and authenticity.

One of the things I love most about Emergence Coaching is that it honors each person’s unique journey. Rather than assuming there is one right answer, we remain curious. Instead of focusing on fixing problems, we focus on discovering possibilities. Clients often find that as they gain greater self-awareness, they naturally begin making different choices. They become more confident, more intentional, and more connected to their values. They recognize limiting beliefs that have quietly shaped their decisions for years, and they begin replacing those beliefs with perspectives that better support the life they want to create. Lasting transformation isn’t created through pressure; it’s created through awareness, reflection, and intentional action.

Looking back, I can see that every challenge I’ve experienced has contributed to this journey. The moments when I questioned myself, felt uncertain, procrastinated, or struggled to move forward have become some of my greatest teachers. They helped me realize that transformation isn’t about eliminating fear altogether. Fear is a normal part of being human. Growth happens when we learn to recognize fear without allowing it to make our decisions for us. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s choosing to move forward with greater awareness despite it.

Feeling Stuck

If you’ve been feeling stuck lately, I want you to know that you’re not alone. Feeling stuck doesn’t mean you’re broken. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed, and it certainly doesn’t mean you’ll always remain where you are today. Sometimes feeling stuck is simply your nervous system asking for understanding rather than criticism. With awareness, compassion, and the right support, it is entirely possible to move beyond fear and begin creating lasting transformation.
